Clear Ceramic Braces
If your dentist has recommended braces but you have cosmetic concerns, you’ll be happy to know that clear ceramic braces can give you the look you desire, while still achieving the fantastic dental results braces can provide. Unfortunately, certain types of braces like Invisalign® are not effective for more severe orthodontic needs. But that doesn’t mean you don’t have other options! Parkcrest Dental Group specializes in orthodontic dentistry and we’re happy to offer several more clandestine options, such as clear ceramic braces.
What are Clear Ceramic Braces?
Ceramic braces are braces that are made of clear materials and are therefore less visible on your teeth than metal braces. For this reason, ceramic braces are used mainly on older teenagers and adult patients who don’t want to call attention to their braces. Clear ceramic braces are very strong and durable and will not chip or crack unless they are badly abused. Of all the different clear types of braces, ceramic braces are the more affordable option for people needing more severe orthodontic treatment.
How Do Clear Ceramic Braces Differ from Other Types of Braces?
Faster results
Clear ceramic braces move teeth much faster than clear aligners. This means you’ll be wearing these types of braces for a shorter period of time but still achieve the results you want.
Clear brackets can be more easily stained than metal brackets
Metal brackets cannot be stained but clear ceramic brackets can. If they are not correctly taken care of and regularly cleaned, clear ceramic braces can become much more visible due to staining. This is especially true if you are an avid coffee drinker, smoker or drink a lot of red wine.
More attention to oral hygiene
Clear ceramic braces have larger brackets than traditional metal braces and they are also more brittle than their metal counterparts. This means you will be required to pay more attention to your oral hygiene to ensure the quality and state of your ceramic brackets is maintained.
More for upper front teeth than on lower teeth
Unlike other types of braces, clear ceramic braces are more commonly used on the upper front teeth and not so much on lower teeth. This is also due to the fact that the brackets are larger and would cause unnecessary discomfort along the bottom teeth.
