Parkcrest Dental Group prides itself on comprehensive dental services for your family. This includes orthodontics for your family from our board-certified orthodontist, Dr. Steven Harrison.

Dr. Harrison is as good as it gets for your family’s orthodontic care. He has nearly 40 years of experience and teaches as a professor at St. Louis University’s Center for Advanced Dental Education.

In today’s blog, we discuss seven questions to ask your orthodontist in Springfield, Missouri.

1) What are my options?

Following a comprehensive exam at our dental office, Dr. Harrison will discuss options with you for orthodontic care, whether it’s for you or your child. Options depend on several factors, such as:

  1. Age of the patient (young child, teenager, adult)
  2. Benefits of various treatments
  3. Amount of work needed
  4. Desired results
  5. Comfort level of the patient

2) Can you show me pictures of each option?

Your smile is very visual, and it’s incredibly important to you. We totally understand that. Orthodontics can also help you with your bite and how your teeth align properly to prevent pain, chewing difficulties, and malformations later in life.

However, we understand that you want to see what the results are from each option. Dr. Harrison is more than happy to show you photos of what various orthodontic treatments look like before, during, and after.

3) How long will I need treatment?

Timeframes for orthodontic treatment vary. Because teeth adjust and move gradually, you can expect your treatment to last for as long as it takes to meet the goals of your smile and bite.

4) What are the benefits of various orthodontic treatments?

Dr. Harrison will discuss how your orthodontic treatment benefits you. Having a beautiful smile is one aspect of orthodontics. The other is about the proper alignment of your teeth and jaw. We want your smile to be perfect, but we also want you to be able to chew your food, enunciate words correctly, and prevent pain in your jaw due to misaligned teeth.

5) What lifestyle changes will I have to make?

Dr. Harrison will talk to you about how you can optimize your orthodontic treatment, from dietary changes and foods to avoid as well as oral hygiene tips and maintaining an active lifestyle.

6) Will my orthodontic treatment hurt?

At most, you will experience some discomfort as your teeth gradually adjust to your treatment. Dr. Harrison will suggest ways to mitigate any discomfort associated with your treatment.

7) Where can I find a top orthodontist in Springfield, Missouri?

Contact Parkcrest Dental or call (417) 887-1220 for more information or to make an appointment with us. Dr. Steven Harrison, our board-certified orthodontist.
