When you travel, you have to pack the perfect number of items for the length of your stay, the weather at your destination, and the activities you plan to take part in. You’ve probably found yourself halfway to the airport with an overstuffed suitcase thrown into the taxi’s trunk before you ask yourself whether or not you’ve packed your toothbrush. If this sounds like you, or if you want to learn about the best way to care for your teeth while traveling, this Parkcrest Dental Group blog is for you.
What to Take With You
Working at Parkcrest Dental Group has taught us that there are some people out there who will only think about their teeth when they’re forced to. They come in for a toothache or an unbearable cavity, but they think a vacation from work means a vacation from brushing.
That’s simply not true. You should continue to brush your teeth at least twice a day, and continue flossing, no matter where you are. Pack a small travel toothbrush, a case of floss or floss picks, and your favorite toothpaste.

Keep Your Toothbrush Dry
A wet toothbrush can quickly turn to a petri dish of bacteria. Make sure that you bring a suitable case for your toothbrush. Even Parkcrest Dental Group dentists don’t board flights with their toothbrushes in their hands, but we do make sure to buy sturdy toothbrush cases with good ventilation. Ventilation allows the remaining moisture on your toothbrush to evaporate. You should also make sure there’s enough room in the toothbrush case for air to circulate, otherwise, your toothbrush could grow bacteria.

Tips When Abroad
If you plan on leaving the country, there are a few things to consider. If you’re staying in an area with undrinkable water, then don’t use that water to rinse your teeth or your toothbrush. Here at Parkcrest Dental Group, we advise that you brush and rinse your teeth with bottled water.
If you plan on staying in a foreign country for an extended period of time, you might need to replace your travel-sized toothpaste. Make sure the toothpaste you purchase has fluoride. Many countries, especially in Asia, do not put fluoride in toothpaste as a rule of thumb, so make sure to read the label carefully.
