Parkcrest Dental Group began on November 4, 1974, at our current location. We’ve grown into one of the largest dental offices in Springfield, Missouri. We had a large expansion in 2017, where we renovated our offices and expanded the wings of our practice.

Parkcrest Dental also has a dedicated orthodontic wing at 1,575 square feet. Dr. Steven Harrison is certified by the American Board of Orthodontics. He has been with our practice since 1986.

What is general dentistry for my family in Springfield, Missouri?
General dentistry includes dental exams and cleaning, which we recommend every six months. Your dentist will recommend when your next appointment should be.
Dental exam. During your routine dental exam, one of our dentists will thoroughly examine your teeth and gums. The doctor looks for signs of tooth decay, misalignment, swelling of the gums, and gum disease. Your dentist may also recommend routine x-rays to see if there are any underlying issues, such as wisdom teeth impaction, abscesses, or any decay below the gum line. Our 3-D x-rays provide a clear picture of your mouth, and your dentist will go over the x-ray images with you to make sure you know exactly what’s going on in your mouth.
Dental cleaning. Before we clean your teeth, we’ll look for any surface decay or cavities. A dental hygienist will carefully scrape away any tartar or plaque build-up using a special dental scraper. Your hygienist will also clean and polish your teeth using a special instrument with a soft, rubber tip and a polishing paste. Our team will also apply a professional-strength fluoride treatment to help protect the outer layers of your teeth. We’ll also demonstrate proper flossing techniques and the best way to brush your teeth. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to ask our staff! Fillings. Our caring, compassionate staff will make you as comfortable as possible when you need a filling. Dental fillings cover a part of your tooth after the decay is removed to strengthen it. We specialize in composite fillings. These high-tech fillings mimic the color of your teeth while providing a protective cover to try to keep tooth decay at bay.
Root canals. If you have pain from a diseased tooth, your dentist might recommend a root canal as a treatment option. Root canals occur when your dentist removes the decayed part of the tooth, applies an antibacterial medication to kill any remaining germs, and then strengthens the remaining tooth with a crown over the remaining structure. The goal here is to preserve the root of the tooth while creating an artificial tooth on top of it. Your dentist will apply a local anesthetic so you won’t feel any pain during a root canal.
Tooth extractions. Your dentist might recommend tooth extraction as a viable treatment option for you, and you might decide to have a restoration later with a dental implant, bridge, or partial dentures. The overall goal of tooth extraction is to alleviate your immediate pain when restoration isn’t the best option at the time.

Following your braces, you will need to wear your retainers every day as per your orthodontist’s instructions. In order to maintain your orthodontic results, it will be very important to wear your retainer as instructed.
Teenagers. Orthodontics is most recommended for teenagers once all of their adult teeth come in. Our orthodontist will assess your child’s needs and recommend a treatment. We’ll also take x-rays to see if the wisdom teeth are coming in properly because impacted wisdom teeth can affect the alignment of teeth later.
Adults. Orthodontics are for adults, too. Our orthodontist may recommend Invisalign, traditional metal braces, ceramic braces, or other treatment options to help improve your smile.
