  • Calcium, Foods

Did you know calcium is the most plentiful mineral in the human body? Calcium is important to the health of your bones, teeth, and muscle function. Lack of calcium can leave your enamel weak and brittle, inviting conditions like tooth decay and gum disease. If you’re looking to add a few more calcium filled foods to your diet, Parkcrest Dental lists some of their favorites.

Yogurt

Yogurt is a great source of calcium and contains probiotic bacteria to help digestion. While greek yogurt has more protein, regular old-fashioned yogurt provides more calcium, as it has 30% of the RDI (reference daily intake) in just one serving.

Milk

One of the most commonly consumed calcium sources is milk, which also contains vitamin D and vitamin A. Whether you pour it over cereal or drink a tall glass, milk is one of the easiest ways to get your daily dose of calcium.

Almonds

When you think of calcium, many foods that come to mind may be dairy products. Dairy products do contain a large amount of calcium, but many other foods are also rich in this mineral. Almonds contain the most calcium out of all the nuts. Eating a few handfuls of almonds each day is sure to give you the desired amount of calcium you need for your diet.

Green Leafy Veggies

Yep, many green vegetables contain high amounts of calcium. Typically the darker the vegetable, the more calcium it contains. Collard greens and spinach are two greens that contain the most calcium, and they taste great in salads.

Sardines And Salmon

Fish like sardines and salmon are known to have a good amount of calcium due to their edible bones. While fish may not be the most desirable meal for some, a pack of sardines can contain 35% of the RDI. Fish is also a great source of protein.
